FAQ

Q: How much does a web site cost?

This is easily the number one question we are asked. And the most difficult to answer up front. There are quite a few factors that are going to affect the ultimate cost of your website. These factors include how many pages you are going to have, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your website will be. You will also need web hosting and domain name registration.

Q: Do I need to hire a "local" web site designer?

Dozier Studio's clients are both local and out of state. The internet sees no boundaries, and with email and telephone, we communicate effectively with our clients no matter where they are located. In most cases, the project is viewed, or approved digitally anyway. And this can be done just as easily across the country or from across the street. Web and graphic design is unique in this way. But that doesn't mean you will miss out on personal service.

Q: How long does it take to have a web site designed?

The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and our current client design schedule. A website is no different than your company brochure. It should promote you, your business and your product. And while we do not cut corners, we are respectful of valuable time. But time is a factor of the needs of our clients and each case is different.

Q: Why can't I find my web site in the search engines?

Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search Engines database update schedule.

Q: Can I update my own web site?

Yes, if you require the ability to edit or update portions of your website, we can set this up for an additional cost. Some clients only need to update products in a shopping cart. While others would like to maintain a daily blog or news. Both require different types of "CMS", or "content management system". We can set your site up with either, or both. There are many other options that can be arranged, depending on your needs.

Q: How do I get started?

If you ready to begin your new website or have any questions, simply fill out our web design quote request form. We will contact you right away.

Q: What is Web Hosting?

Once your web pages are designed and ready for public viewing they need a "home" on the Internet so they can be accessed 24 hours a day by Internet traffic (your prospective clients). This is done by uploading them to a web hosting provider which rents you space on a monthly basis. Web hosting is a monthly fee that you pay to have your site accessible on the Internet. We can provide web hosting for our clients.

Q: What is a domain name?

Think of a domain name, like the phone number at your home. It uniquely identifies your website allowing people to find you. Whether your website is for a business, organization, or personal use, a domain name is the "address".

Domain names should be easy to remember and easy to type. A great benefit to have a uniquely registered domain name is that your Email and website address will always remain the same.

Q: What is a URL?

Technically "URL" stands for "Uniform Resource Locator". But simply put, it is just another way of referring to a domain name. It is the address or string of letters and numbers that make up your websites domain name. (For example www.dozierstudio.com). In most cases it will end in .com, .net, .org, which are called "TLDs", or "Top Level Domains".

Q: Can I keep my current web host and use you as my web designer?

Yes, you can use any web host you like. You will simply provide us with your web hosting ftp login username and password so that we can upload your website for you.

Q: Are there any advantages to using you for both hosting and design?

Simply put, yes. Though it's not required, there are some advantages.

Q: What is Web Development?

Web development is web site design combined with back-end programming. The typical goal of web development is to produce a web site that is database driven. Pages are often changed "dynamically", based on the visitors action or request. The simplest example of this would be a shopping cart. The programming embedded in the website takes care of updating the web pages dynamically on-the-fly.

Q: Which programming languages do you work with at Dozier Studio?

PHP, MySql, Java Script, XML, DHTML, Flash Action Script to name a few.

Q: How much does a new custom designed logo cost?

This can vary. Some designs will be more complex than others, and obviously take more time. We charge hourly, but in most cases, we can give you a rough estament of how much time your design will take.

Q: Do I receive digital files of my new logo?

A master CD containing the finished logo or design in the following formats;

  • Digital format copies for use as "clip art".
  • Digital format copies suitable for high resolution printing.
